Goals galore on Boxing Day

Premier League

Jaymes Monte has analysed the Opta stats for the Boxing Day fixtures and picked out his best bets...

Everton 1.54 v Wigan 7.6; The Draw 4.4

Everton host Wigan this Boxing Day looking to extend an unbeaten run of eight Premier League games against the Latics and 12 home matches against any opponent.

Wigan have, however, opened the scoring in each of the last four Premier League clashes between the sides, but have been pegged back on each occasion to lose one and draw three. This could be a good game to trade In-Play, starting with a punt on the visitors in the Match Odds market.

Leighton Baines, at odds of 5.0 in the anytime scorer market, is also worth an interest having scored more league goals (3) against his former club than any other opponent.

Fulham 1.87 v Southampton 4.7; The Draw 3.85

Southampton haven't won away at Fulham since October 1947 in any competition, a run of 14 visits without success (W0 D6 L8), but a 3-1 victory over QPR in November ended a run of 12 trips to the capital in the Premier League without a win for Southampton (W0 D3 L9).

The Cottagers have won only two of their last six Premier League games, but Tottenham are the only side to have prevented them scoring in their last 12 league matches at The Cottage. Over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.74 looks to be the bet here.

Man Utd 1.27 v Newcastle 13.5; The Draw 6.8

Newcastle have won only one of their last 20 Premier League games against Manchester United, but have lost just one of the last four. While you have to go back more than 30 years and 30 matches for their last win at Old Trafford in any competition.

Wayne Rooney has scored 10 Premier League goals against Newcastle, his joint-highest tally against any opponent, while Robin van Persie has scored five and assisted three goals in his last seven Premier League games against the Magpies. The Englishman is a 1.74 chance to score anytime and the Dutchman is 1.6.

Norwich 6.2 v Chelsea 1.66; The Draw 4.2

Chelsea have won six and lost none of their last eight matches in all competitions against Norwich, but The Canaries have already beaten Arsenal and Manchester United at Carrow Road this season, so will hold no fears.

Norwich have won their last five Premier League matches at Carrow Road and all by a one-goal margin and The Blues have won just one of their five Premier League away trips to Carrow Road (W1 D2 L2). There's scope to lay the visitors at odds of 1.66 here.

QPR 2.4 v West Brom 3.25; The Draw 3.5

QPR have won just one of their last four home games against the Baggies (W1 D1 L2), but victory over Fulham in their last home game ended a run of seven without a win at Loftus Road for the Rs (W0 D4 L3).

West Brom have won just three of their last 14 Premier League away matches (W3 D4 L7), but their win against Norwich at the weekend was their first in five.

The Baggies have kept just two clean sheets in their last 46 Premier League away games, so goals should be on the agenda. Over 2.5 can be backed at odds of 2.0

Reading 3.0 v Swansea 2.54; The Draw 3.55

If Reading are to overcome the harrowing statistic of clubs being relegated having been bottom of the table at Christmas then they must start winning matches such as this one.

Swansea have only kept two clean sheets in their last 12 Premier League away games, so The Royals can at least expect to get chances in front of goal. Although that has rarely been a problem for them this season, a lack of frugality at the back is what has cost them points. Back Over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.84.

Sunderland 7.2 v Man City 1.57; The Draw 4.2

This fixture last season epitomised the smash and grab theory as Ji Dong-Won's last-gasp streak stole the three points for Sunderland. It was the second time in as many seasons that a last minute winner had given the Black Cats a 1-0 win against City, and means that after a run of nine consecutive Premier League defeats against City, Sunderland have won two and drawn two of the last six.

Sunderland to win 1-0 can be backed at odds of 22.0 and has to be worth a small bet.
