Harry can pull off Saturday surprise

5Jan 2013

Andrew Hughes thinks QPR can build on their Stamford Bridge triumph, knock West Brom out of the cup and help land a cross-sport multiple in the process.

Betfair now gives you the facility to mix and match your multiples across a huge range of sports and markets with the easy-to-use betslip and so each weekend I've been putting together a cross-sport treble with the aim of showing the way to maximise your profits.

Bet 1: Back QPR to beat West Bromwich Albion at 2.45

As expected for an FA Cup tie, both these sides are likely to make several changes. QPR have DJ Campbell, Rob Hulse and Jay Bothroyd back from loan spells and all three are likely to play, whilst Albion have up to nine players nursing various injuries.

With so many changes, it will almost be like two new teams lining up for this one and league form will go out of the window. You could argue that an FA Cup game is the last thing that either of these sides needs at the moment. However, Harry Redknapp is adept at getting his players up for one-off cup games and he will want to carry forward the momentum that QPR established with their stunning win at Chelsea.

Albion are also on a bit of a slump at the moment and the Rangers players may enjoy the chance to play without the pressure of three points at stake. Back the home side to pull off a minor FA Cup surprise.

Bet 2: Back Exeter to beat Northampton at 1.74

Both teams have been forced to make changes after bruising games last week. Exeter will have to replace prop Brett Sturgess after he broke an arm in the 12-12 draw with Bath, whilst Northampton will reshuffle their pack after losing 17-16 to Saracens.

Saints have lost to both the top two teams in the Aviva Premiership and as a result, have slipped back down the table, just one point ahead of Exeter and right in the middle of a battle for the final play-off spot.

Exeter's strong campaign this year is down largely to their home form. They have the best home record in the Premiership, having lost just one game at Sandy Park all season, and that in the Heineken Cup. Bearing in mind that Saints have only won one of their last four away games, against lowly Sale and a home win looks the sensible bet.

Bet 3: Back Martin Atkins to beat Jason Cullen at 1.4

The BDO World Championship at Lakeside gets underway with this clash of the generations. Martin Atkins is appearing in his ninth successive World Championship, has won up a couple of events this year and is in reasonable form.

Jason Cullen is 23 years younger than his opponent and obviously has plenty of potential, but he picked up the last qualification place for this tournament and this will be his first experience of the pressure that comes with such a high profile event.

Atkins has yet to get past the quarter-finals at Lakeside and is unlikely to go on and lift the trophy, but his experience will give him the edge over his young challenger and help him to progress to the last 16.
