Hughes finally axed by Rangers

Premier League basement boys Queens Park Rangers, who are 8/13 with bet365 to be relegated, have sacked manager Mark Hughes ahead of their trip to Manchester United.

Hughes' position had been in doubt ever since his side were beaten 3-1 at home by fellow strugglers Southampton last weekend, with the R's having failed to win any of their opening 12 league games this season. Club owner Tony Fernandes had insisted earlier in the week that Hughes retained his full support, but the Loftus Road club have now decided to make a change in a bid to avoid relegation. Hughes only took charge at Rangers in January, following the sacking of Neil Warnock, and helped his side avoid the drop on the final day of the season, despite them losing 3-2 at Manchester City. They did so by winning five consecutive home games, seeing off Liverpool, Arsenal, Swansea City, Spurs and Stoke City.
