Premier League on Betfair: Tottenham old boys combine to give Rangers hope

England - Premier League

It's all change at the bottom of the Premier League after QPR and Aston Villa both pick up much-needed wins

It was a huge day at the bottom of the Premier League as QPR and Aston Villa both pulled off significant victories as they battle to beat the drop.

Fellow relegation strugglers Reading hosted Villa and got off to the perfect start after an own goal from Nathan Baker. But in Christian Benteke, Paul Lambert's men have a genuine weapon and the Belgian striker hauled his side back into the match with his 12th goal of the season. The 22-year-old is a new fans' favourite but they have one of the old boys to thank for the win after Gabriel Agbonlahor notched the winner.

Reading are now bottom of the table an 1.17 to be playing Championship football next year. Villa are now more likely to stay up than go down according to the Betfair market - they can be backed at 2.16 to be relegated.

Things aren't quite so rosy for QPR, who are 1.66 in the Relegation market, but they certainly look better than in previous weeks after a 3-1 defeat of Sunderland at Loftus Road.

Rangers have an ex-Spurs boss in charge and they have two men who have worn the Tottenham shirt to thank for the win after Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas scored today. QPR were backed at 12.5 to win from behind.

Southampton notched a useful point with a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road but they have keeper Artur Boruc to thank for the win after the former Celtic man made a last minute penalty save. Saints - four points clear of the bottom three - are 3.65 for the drop.

In the day's other fixture West Brom pulled off a come from behind win over Swansea - they were backed at 11.5 to do so.
