Remy and Redknapp can combine to avert QPR-mageddon

 

Betfair customers have QPR odds-on in the Premier League Relegation market but with the Harry's Hoops picking up away wins, keeping clean sheets and now signing the much-coveted Loic Remy, Rangers fan Oli Przybylski is staying positive ahead of the run-in

 

So, QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has gone all in. Again.

 

And can you blame him? Considering the financial investment he's already made, what's another few million in a bid to avoid the frankly cataclysmic prospect of relegation?

 

Wednesday's signing of Loic Remy from Marseille for a club record £8 million is an incredible coup at the best of times for a club like QPR; let alone when (keeping it topical) you're more likely to find horse meat in your burger than the Superhoops stay in the Premier League, according to the Betfair odds.

 

With half a season down the pan and rumours of interest in Titus Bramble threatening the return of the Axis of Feeble, no supporter would've be surprised had the promising 22-year-old joined a team further up the table. But he did sign, and according to Harry Redknapp he might even be followed in by the equally lauded Yann M'Villa.

 

When Harry took over at QPR the damage done by He Who Shall Not Be Named was so atomic that survival expectations among supporters had all but evaporated. But despite a first half annihilation at the hands of Liverpool, Redknapp's rein so far has been very encouraging. Even before the recent signing there was a new spirit in the camp, gloriously epitomised with the first away win at Stamford Bridge in this writer's lifetime. The return of Shaun Derry, the responsibility shown by Adel Taarabt - even clean sheets. All signs that something seems to finally going right for the Rs this season.

 

This weekend's away to trip to Upton Park sees QPR attempt to do the unthinkable - put together three away wins on the trot.

 

After more than a year without a win on their travels, a win at West Ham would provide another almighty boost to a squad in danger of giving the supporters more than a faint glimmer of hope. But if QPR are to stay in this division, then wins against the likes of West Ham are going to have to happen, and you'd argue that now is not a bad time to try and catch out Big Sam's depleted defence with a bit of momentum and a fresh signing.

 

So you can understand why the chairman is backing Redknapp with the likes of Remy. Fernandes is so desperate to avoid QPR-mageddon that when you're already all-in sometimes the only move left is to nip to the cash machine and go all-in all over again.

 

And that's exactly what he's doing. Nobody knows for sure how the cards will fall, but despite a perilous league position QPR supporters are starting to believe that there could yet be late drama on the river.
