Against All Odds: Cowdenbeath to be a thorn in Thistle's side

Partick are odds-on for their trip to Cowdenbeath in the Scottish First Division this evening and while they are in cracking form, Paul Robinson thinks they could struggle to take all three points.

Cowdenbeath were promoted to this league after winning Division Two last season. They haven't won too many games - six in total - but they have managed to keep the losses down and pick up plenty of valuable draws. They are currently eighth in the table, just two points above Dumbarton in the relegation play-off zone, but they do have a much better goal difference.

Colin Cameron's side had their run of four unbeaten ended last time out as they lost 4-2 at Greenock Morton. Greenock are top of the league though and Cameron will take heart from the fact that they actually led 0-2 at half time. The Blue Brazil haven't suffered defeat at Central Park since early November - a spell of eight games - and they've won three of their last five there.

Partick Thistle are flying at the moment and they are just two points off top spot, with two games in hand. They have won their last half dozen on the bounce, conceding just a single goal. After a wobbly spell that saw them pick up only two points from a possible 12, things turned around when Alan Archibald was appointed as manager. His record currently stands at - played seven, won six, drawn one.

The Jags have won their last two on the road, but my concern is that before that, it was eight without victory, including three defeats. Furthermore, the two teams they beat recently - Dunfermline and Hamilton - aren't exactly in the greatest of form.

Clearly Partick are the worthy favourites for this clash but Cowdenbeath are very hard to beat, especially at home. I think their odds of 1.61 are a touch too short, which is why I'm making Partick my lay of the day.
