Against All Odds: East Stirling to make home advantage pay

19Dec 2012

East Stirling take on Montrose tonight and while the Betfair markets don't expect them to take anything from this game, Paul Robinson thinks they can give the home fans something to cheer about.

East Stirling are ninth of 10 in the Scottish Third Division with 12 points. They do have a couple of games in hand over most of the teams above them though so while they are four points adrift of eighth, it is quite possible that they could close that gap in the near future.

After a nice little run of four victories in six matches, John Coughlin's side have lost their last three, two of which were at home. They were hammered by Rangers, although that can be forgiven, before losing to both Berwick Rangers and Clyde. While neither of those two teams are any great shakes, the defeats were narrow one goal margins and I wouldn't write off East Stirling just yet, especially at home.

Montrose are up in fifth place with 22 points from 15 fixtures. After a spell of half a dozen unbeaten, they themselves lost to Rangers last time out. Interestingly though, they have lost their last two matches at East Stirling and their away form isn't exactly stellar.

Stuart Garden's men may have won their last three away from Links Park, but before that they were without a win in six, losing five of them. It's a similar story if you check further back through their history with the odd draw or victory dotted in between runs of defeats.

Montrose may come into this match in the better form but East Stirling have home advantage and I expect them to make it count. At around the 1.98 mark, I have to make Montrose my lay of the day.
