Against All Odds: Lyon's woes to continue

14Apr 2013

Ligue1

Lyon play host to Toulouse in France's Ligue One this afternoon and with no win in five, Paul Robinson believes the home side have to be opposed at odds-on.

Lyon have dropped out of the title race in recent weeks after a dire run of form that has seen them pick up just two points from a possible 15. They are now in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification, although if they win their game in hand they will move ahead of Saint-Etienne into third.

Winning hasn't been coming easy to Rémi Garde's men of late though as their last one was back in February and they've won just two of their last nine in the league. The Kids come into this clash on the back of three straight defeats, all of which came against teams in the bottom half of the division. Their performances on home soil don't inspire too much confidence either as they have won just two of seven at Stade de Gerland and they will have to do without the services of Steed Malbranque, Milan Bi¹evac and Dejan Lovren today.

Toulouse have climbed to 11th thanks to a good run of results although that was ended last time out as they lost a seven goal thriller to Nice. Prior to that they were six undefeated and while four of those were draws, that would be more than good enough for us.

TFC have actually won their last two away from Stadium Municipal - at Brest and Ajaccio - and they had avoided defeat in three of their previous four before that, the only blemish being a 2-0 loss at Rennes. Toulouse will also take heart from the fact that they've comprehensively beaten Lyon in their last two meetings, both by a 3-0 scoreline.

Lyon are in dreadful form and while Toulouse are having a disappointing campaign, they have largely been avoiding defeat lately. That's why, with Lyon trading around the 1.94 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
