Big Saturday Multiple: Spireites set to give Brewers the Blues

15Dec 2012

Following a successful week with his Home and Away column, Jonno Turner switches his attentions to three domestic clashes which make up his Big Saturday Multiple.

We're off to Derbyshire for the first part of our three team multiple for today - and in-form Chesterfield welcome Burton Albion to the Proact Stadium, looking to fire themselves into the play-off picture.

Paul Cook's side have been in excellent form since he took over at the helm around six weeks ago - and the Spireites go into this one having won their last four League Two games.

But it is not just the results that will please Cook. His side have secured two clean sheets from their last two encounters, and that suggests that the ex-Accrington boss has tightened up a defence which looked leaky at the beginning of the season.

Wins against Oxford United and Cheltenham Town in their last two on their own patch will have boosed confidence in the hosts camp, and they will be keen to chalk up another three points against a Burton side who have looked travel sick of late.

Gary Rowett's side go into this clash having won just one of their last five on the road, and that makes it just four wins away from the Pirelli Stadium since December last year.

The Brewers shipped three goals in their last away game - at struggling Wycombe - and Rowett will be desperate to correct that slide before his side fall out of the top ten.

So tight is this division that the visitors have upto seven or eight sides breathing down their necks - and it remains to be seen whether they have the strength to avoid crumbling under that pressure.

Chesterfield are full of momentum and vigour at the moment, and buoyed by a comfortable 2-0 win at promotion chasing Port Vale last week, I expect Cook's side to collect another three points here.

Bet 1: Chesterfield (HOME) @ 1.85

Russell Slade's Orient side are going great guns in League One at the moment - and we're going to look at their clash with Scunthorpe United for our next tip.

The O's have won their last eight consecutive games in all competitions - and are garnering a reputation as a side to watch.

Three clean sheets from their last four shows that Slade has instilled a consistency and confidence amongst his rearguard that will fare them well this campaign - and they will be keen to continue that momentum with another three points against a struggling Iron side here.

Two consecutive wins against Shrewsbury and Preston North End on their own patch has seen the Brisbane Road side climb into the top half of the third tier, and Slade will be looking for his side to extend their dominance in this game.

The visitors travel to the capital having lost their last three outings - and that has seen Brian Laws' side cement their place in the bottom four.

Ten goals conceded in their last four clashes suggests that the away side are likely to concede this afternoon - and that will have the in-form Orient forwards licking their lips.

And in the bigger picture that makes it 10 without a win from their last 13 away from Glanford Park - with a 4-0 thrashing at Doncaster Rovers last time out the icing on that misery cake.

Bet 2: Leyton Orient (HOME) @ 2.0

Turning our attentions back to the fourth tier for our final pick of today - and Rotherham United travel south to AFC Wimbledon, looking to inflict more misery on their hosts.

The Millers currently sit fifth in League Two - and have won their last two away form the New York Stadium.

In the bigger picture, that makes it just one loss from seven on the road for Steve Evans' side - and he will be desperate for his side to continue that positive form at lowly Wimbledon today.

Four clean sheets from their last seven on their travels suggests that the South Yorkshire side are certainly capable of keeping out their opponents this afternoon - and seven goals smashed in their last five shows that with the likes of Nardiello, Odejayi and Pringle firing on all cylinders, this Rotherham side are a force to be reckoned with.

The hosts go into this game in the midst of a miserable run - and have not picked up a win in five league games.

Neal Ardley's side have shipped a whopping 10 goals in their last four outings - and that will have knocked confidence down at the Kingsmeadow Stadium.

Just one win in seven league games has left the home side floundering in 21st position - just one point outside the drop zone - and failure to pick up a positive result soon could see them fall into the bottom two.

Bet 3: Rotherham United (AWAY) @ 1.95
