Blackpool v Wolves: Tangerines to keep it sweet with another win

21Dec 2012

England - The Championship

Andy Tongue is backing Blackpool to continue their push for the play-off places with victory at home to Wolves...

Friday's televised Championship clash sees two of the sides caught in the melee that stretches from Leicester in fifth place with 37 points down to the visitors Wolves in  18th spot on 28 points. Blackpool sit in the middle of this group on 32 points, very much within striking distance of the top six.

Blackpool

New boss Michael Appleton has settled in just fine among the Blackpool illuminations and his side are now unbeaten in eight matches. Five of those have been draws but  last week's 2-0 win over Blackburn lifted the Tangerines up to 11th place and they will be eyeing the play-off spots in the New Year. Appleton's biggest fight in January could  be holding onto highly-rated winger Tom Ince, who is attracting close interest from a number of Premier League clubs. With Nathan Delfouneso on the other flank, the home  side are one of the division's most potent attacking outfits.

Wolves

Wanderers' frustrating season continued last Saturday when a late penalty, hotly disputed by their manager Stale Solbakken, led to a 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, where  the Dane felt his team had been the better side for much of the game. That halted the momentum that had started to build following wins over Birmingham and Bristol City  and leaves them in 18th place though they will continue to look up the table rather than down, given the reassuring ten point gap to the relegation spots.

Match Odds

The home side can be backed at 2.1 which is a tempting price for a side who are clearly going in the right direction, against an inconsistent Wanderers outfit. However, they do tend to draw too many games so the advised bet is to back them in the Draw No Bet market at 1.53.

Under/Over 2.5 goals

Blackpool's fluid attacking style means they will always create plenty of chances but can lead them vulnerable to swift counter-attacking. With the likes of Sylvan  Ebanks-Blake and Kevin Doyle up front, the visitors should have a few opportunities of their own so backing over 2.5 goals at 1.76makes plenty of appeal.

Half-Time/Full-Time

Given the home side's habit of drawing games they perhaps should have put to bed it's also worth covering our main with a small play on Blackpool/Draw in the  half-time/full-time market at 14.5. If Wolves are chasing the game they do have some useful firepower at their disposal, which they could unleash after the interval.
