Bradford to be heroes against the villains

England - Capital One Cup

It's the first leg of the Capital One Cup Semi Final tonight between Bradford and Aston Villa and despite the gulf in class, Paul Robinson thinks the Premier League outfit are worth opposing at odds-on.

Bradford have had a remarkable run in this competition thus far culminating in knocking out the mighty Arsenal in the quarter finals. That wasn't the first time they'd despatched of Premier League opposition though as in the previous round they overcame Wigan on penalties at the DW.

The Bantams are doing quite well in League Two as well this term. Phil Parkinson has his team in the play-off places and that is mainly due to their home form. At Valley Parade they have lost just three matches all season, and they have scored in every game bar three, keeping five clean sheets themselves.

Aston Villa have been very Jekyll and Hyde this year, either looking fantastic like when winning at Anfield or shocking like in their next three where they lost 15-0 on aggregate. Paul Lambert's side are a work in progress, but as things stand, they lack experience, especially at the back.

Usually in ties like this you expect the Premier League team to be the less nervy, but with the exception of a couple of Villa players, this will be one of the biggest games in many of their careers to date. Home advantage could prove vital tonight as the Yorkshire crowd will be right behind Bradford and the game will likely be played at 100mph early on.

The Villains know that they will still have the second leg to come in Birmingham, so while they will obviously be going out to win and gain an advantage, a draw would still be a good result for them.

Taking everything into consideration, Aston Villa's price at around the 1.99 mark is just a touch too short for me, and that's why I'm making them my lay of the day.
