City to end Everton hoodoo

14Mar 2013

Paul Robinson is in fine form and he took his profit to 22.5pts for the year last week as he tipped up three winners, including a 9/1 shot. Here are this weeks Fixed  Odds Selections:

Everton v Man City - Sky Sports Two at 12:45

Back Man City @ 2.2 (6/5)

Back under 2.5 goals @ 1.9 (10/11)

Everton look to shake off their shock 3-0 cup exit to Wigan last week but with Man City in town, I can see more misery for the Toffees.

David Moyes is still to decide whether he'll extend his stay at Goodison beyond this season and since his announcement that he'd wait until the summer to commit, his  teams performances have dropped.

They were completely outplayed by The Latics on Saturday and the home crowd turned on their own players, most notably Marouane Fellaini, who didn't react too well to  it.

The Blues have won just two of their last six, with the two victories being against Oldham and Reading. No disrespect to them but they aren't in the same class as  Manchester City, who are of course the defending champions.

City have bounced back from the shock defeat at Southampton by recording four straight wins to nil. It may be too late to retain their title but it seems that the  players are playing a bit better now that the pressure is off.

Away from the Etihad Roberto Mancini's men have generally been solid this term - winning four of their last six - and as touched upon, their defence has been pretty  mean.

Everton actually have a decent head to head record with City in recent times but I think that's all about to change. The Merseysiders are in a slump and I can't see  them raising their game to the required level here. I would also consider a back of under 2.5 goals at 1.9 (10/11) as I can't even see Everton scoring a goal.

Southampton v Liverpool

Back Liverpool to win @ 1.9 (10/11)

Back Liverpool to win 2-1 @ 7.5 (13/2)

Liverpool travel to the south coast for a meeting with Southampton on Saturday and with the Reds in rampant form, I think that their price of 1.9 (10/11) is worthy of  investment.

Southampton have started to look over their shoulder again after picking up just one point from a possible nine. Mauricio Pochettino has had the fans on his side thus  far, which is surprising given the uproar when Nigel Adkins was sacked, but if the Saints fall to another defeat at the weekend, the boo boys could begin to pipe up.

They are now only four points clear of the relegation zone and Wigan have a game in hand over them. After pretty heavy investment in the likes of Gaston Ramirez,  relegation would be quite a blow to the Saints, especially with the new TV deal coming into force next season.

Liverpool are flying with Luis Suarez grabbing most of the headlines. After being goal shy last year, the Reds have netted 56 times in 29 games, with only Manchester  United scoring more.

Brendan Rodgers has led his side to four straight victories by an aggregate score of 15-3. Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have added to the attack but it's  Suarez who is the main danger. He is currently being touted for the end of season awards and he must surely run the likes of Gareth Bale and Robin Van Persie very  close based on his form on the pitch. The Uruguayan netted his 29th goal of the campaign against Spurs last Sunday and he has now scored seven in his last four.

The defence does look a bit shaky at times, especially at set pieces, so while I think Liverpool will win, I think backing a 1-2 correct score at 7.5 (13/2) is the  best option for those who like bigger prices.

Wigan v Newcastle - Sky Sports One at 16:00

Back the draw @ 3.2 (11/5)

Back a 2-2 correct score @ 11.0 (10/1)

This week's Super Sunday comes from the DW Stadium as Wigan entertain Newcastle. Entertain could be the operative word for this one as I fancy a high scoring draw.

Wigan have been flying in the FA Cup with recent convincing victories at both Huddersfield and Everton. They're struggling in the league though and the 3-0 win at  Reading was their first win since the end of December.

Roberto Martinez's men couldn't build on that next time though as they were thumped 4-0 by Liverpool, although Pepe Reina did make some quality saves. The Latics just  can't seem to keep clean sheets at home - none in the Premier League this season - and they've conceded two or more in 12 of their 14 fixtures.

Newcastle have improved since the influx of new signings in January and not only have they moved into mid-table, they have a real shot of making the quarter-finals of  the Europa League. By Sunday they will know whether they are through as they face Anzhi on Thursday and I wouldn't be concerned about the short recovery period for the  players as they beat Stoke just three days after the first leg in Russia.

The Magpies haven't won too many away from St James' this year but they are capable of good results and they certainly know how to find the net on the road - only four  blanks from 14 in the Premier League this season.

The draw looks the stand out bet to me at 3.2 (11/5) and if you want something at a more speculative price, then a 2-2 correct score looks good at 11.0 (10/1).
