Cricket: Compton tipped to come good

England opener Nick Compton has been backed by team-mate Matt Prior to find his form in the upcoming first Test of three in New Zealand, with the tourists 1/4 with bet365 to win the series.

Compton made 21 and 1 in the only warm-up fixture ahead of the Test action against a New Zealand XI in Queenstown, but Prior has faith that the Somerset right-hander will hit his straps in Dunedin. "He's hitting the ball brilliantly in the nets and it will be down to him to get his preparation right going into the Test," Prior said. "You can score all the runs you want in the world in warm-up games, but ultimately that first innings of the Test match is where we want Compo to go and score a big hundred." Compton broke into the England set-up in India, forming a steady opening partnership with captain Alastair Cook as the tourists won the four-match Test series 2-1.
