Cricket: Pietersen given England break

Kevin Pietersen has not been named in the ODI and Twenty20 squads for their upcoming tour of New Zealand, as he will be given some rest with Ashes Series to come next summer.

The 32-year-old, who has only just returned to the international scene with England, helped them secure a long-awaited series victory in India this month. Pietersen will be given a chance to continue his strong form in New Zealand for the Test series but will not feature in the shorter forms of the game, as he is wanted fully fit for the Ashes Series, which England are 8/13 to win with bet365 next summer. National selector Geoff Miller said: "There are a number of players who we have decided not to select for parts of the competitive programme this winter as we look to manage their workloads effectively while ensuring we remain competitive across all formats."
