Surprisingly, the best ever Asian player has yet to seriously impact on a World Championship, apart from a narrow semi-final defeat in 2011. Nobody has ever doubted his talent or ability to win this prize and, given that Ding is much improved in the tactical department nowadays, this could plausibly be his year. His snooker when winning the recent PTC Galway was of the very highest class.
