Euro2012: France - Sweden

France are expected to take their place in the last eight this evening and things would have to go badly wrong for them not to be in the quarter-finals. They play a Swedish team who are already out of the tournament after they suffered back to back defeats against Ukraine and England. France will be hoping for a very good tournament to erase away some of the memories of the 2010 World Cup.

These days the French fans expect success and after winning the 1998 World Cup and then the 2000 European Championships then one can hardly blame them. France were also a penalty shootout away from adding another World Cup to that list as well in 2006. They will be hoping to better England in the final game as both France and England would rather play Italy in the quarter-finals than Spain.

Although the Ukraine could be surprise group winners should they beat England and France fail to beat Sweden. That series of results would see Ukraine top on 6pts with France second on 5pts should they draw. Sweden only have professional pride to play for and that may not be enough to stop the French from securing all three points and top spot in the group.
