Euro2012: Sweden vs England

The Republic of Ireland became the first nation to exit Euro 2012 last night after being well beaten 4-0 by Spain. Today could see the second elimination as Sweden have to take at least a point from England to avoid that same fate. England have a poor record against Sweden down the years but both teams play a similar brand of football. England will certainly have to attack the Swedes more than they did the French.

England are still without Wayne Rooney who is suspended and that will be a big loss for them. Sweden looked mediocre in their 2-1 defeat to the co-hosts Ukraine on Monday and they will be looking to improve on that result. Much will rest on the shoulders of their talismanic marksman Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The AC Milan hitman will be the spearhead for any Swedish attack this evening and he has the quality to trouble any team in the world.

However Sweden really struggled defensively against Ukraine and conceded two headed goals from Shevchenko on the night. England had a very poor build up to this event which didn't help them. Although that could also assist them because the expectation simply isn't there amongst the England fans who expect nothing whatsoever from their team in this tournament.
