Euro2012: Ukraine - France

Few people were tipping France before the start of Euro 2012 but that can often be a good thing. Too many tournaments down the years have resulted in the favourites being eliminated. France went into the 2002 World Cup as reigning World and European Champions and failed to get out of their group. So France will not be taking Ukraine lightly.

The winners and runners-up in Group D will play the teams from Group C which will likely be Spain and either Croatia or Italy. So coming second in Group D may just turn out to be the worst result of all if Spain beat Croatia in their final game and top Group C. Ukraine have the chance this evening to not only qualify but to also top the group.

Should they beat the French and Sweden and England play out a draw then Ukraine would become the first team to automatically qualify for the quarter-finals. After they came from behind to beat Sweden on Monday night then the nation is really starting to get behind their team and Ukraine could just become a very difficult team to beat for anyone. They will certainly not want to exit from their own tournament at the group stage and that will make it tough for France this evening.
