Everton's Achilles to help Norwich net early

23Feb 2013

England - Premier League

With the Opta stats at his disposal, Christian Crowther finds four bets to accompany the Premier League's big weekend clashes...

Norwich v Everton (Saturday, 15:00)

No side have conceded more goals in the opening 15 minutes of their matches in the Premier League (10) this season than Everton (same as West Ham); This is 31% of their total goals conceded

These are the sorts of stats that drive a manager bonkers. Gaffers everywhere will instruct their teams to keep things tight early on, but David Moyes' Everton have clearly forgotten this footballing golden rule with alarming regularity. If the Toffees hadn't been so generous in giving opposition teams a headstart this season, then a Premier League tally of 12 draws would probably have been majorly reduced in favour of the wins column.

Recommended Bet: Back the first goal to be scored between 0-10 minutes @ 4.7

QPR v Manchester United (Saturday, 15:00)

There have only been 11 instances of a team scoring fewer than 19 goals in their opening 26 Premier League games (as QPR have done)

QPR's current predicament at the bottom of the Premier League owes much to their inability to trouble the scoresheet, home or away. With the league's runaway leaders Manchester United in town, it seems pretty unlikely that Harry Redknapp's t strugglers will be able to do what Real Madrid couldn't and notch against them multiple times. Even by their own prolific standards, the Red Devils have not notched more than twice in their last five games either.

Recommended Bet: Back Under 2.5 goals @ 2.22

West Brom v Sunderland (Saturday, 15:00)

Each of the last four top-flight between WBA and Sunderland have gone over 3.5 goals

Past meetings between theses sides indicate that the highlights from this game may feature prominently in Saturday night's Match of the Day running order. Sunderland will be out for revenge over their hosts, who put four past them at the Stadium of Light in a six-goal thriller back in November. Having scored four goals in their last two Premier League away games, Martin O'Neill's side clearly have the firepower to trouble West Brom.

Recommended Bet: Back Over 3.5 goals @ 3.75

Newcastle v Southampton (Sunday, 13:30)

The Magpies have won seven and lost none of their last eight Premier League home games against the Saints

Newcastle's mad flurry of January transfer activity seems to have paid off in the Premier League, with the Magpies going on to record two wins in their last three games, including a victory over Chelsea. Despite a narrow loss to Tottenham last time out in the league, Alan Pardew's new-look side look a good bet to bounce back in front of their fans. Though they recently beat Manchester City at St Mary's, the Saints have won just one of their last seven away games in the league.

Recommended Bet: Back Newcastle to win @ 2.16
