Friedel pens new Spurs deal

Brad Friedel has signed a new deal with Tottenham that will keep him at White Hart Lane until the end of the 2013-14 campaign.

The 41-year-old American, who played in 310 consecutive matches earlier in his career, a Premier League record, recently lost his place in Andre Villas-Boas' side to Frenchman Hugo Lloris. Friedel would have been a free agent at the end of this season and could have opened discussions with other teams in January, but will now challenge Lloris, Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini for a starting spot in Villas-Boas' side. Spurs are 15/8 with bet365 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this term and 18/1 to win the Europa League.
