Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs, whose side are 15/2 with bet365 to win the Champions League this season, expects two new signings to make a crucial difference.

Striker Robin van Persie and midfielder Shinji Kagawa have both made encouraging starts to their Old Trafford careers and Giggs believes that the duo will help United erase the memory of a group stage exit last season.

He said: "Robin has the experience of playing in Europe with Arsenal. The goals he has got will hopefully give us that extra edge this season. "Shinji is that kind of player who will thrive in Europe, where possession is key. He keeps the ball and gets into positions where he is hard to pick up."

The Red Devils start their European campaign at home to Galatasaray on Wednesday evening, having drawn three and won one of their previous four meetings with the Turkish outfit.
