Home and Away: Partick to cement supremacy over Morton

Jonno Turner looks to action in England and Scotland as he looks for profit from todays football calendar...

Over to Staffordshire for our first pick of the day, as Crewe Alexandra welcome in-form Brentford to Gresty Road.

The hosts will be delighted after securing a win in their second trip to Wembley in two years, as they lifted the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Sunday - but boss Steve Davis will be keen for his side to put those exploits behind them as they prepare to welcome the Bees tonight, and they must re-focus on league action in order to avoid a morale busting defeat here.

Alex certainly have no excuses for complacency - with just two wins from their last five league outings on their own patch underlining the inconsistency which has left them sitting in an underwhelming mid-table position, with the end of the campaign in sight.

And just one clean sheet in that time suggests that the home defence is likely to be troubled by the final third quality of Brentford here.

Uwe Rosler's side go into this one full of confidence, and challenging at the right end of the table - although their form on the road has, at times, left a lot to be desired this season.

But a spirited 1-1 draw at Coventry on Saturday suggests that the Bees may have turned a corner away from Griffin Park, and they will be desperate to build on that point here.

And that leaves the visitors sitting fourth in the third tier - but by no means guaranteed a play-off position at this stage of the campaign.

That makes this encounter hugely important for Rosler's side, and he will be keen for them to take advantage of Crewe's tired legs - in order to leave Staffordshire with maximum points.

Bet 1: Brentford (AWAY) @ 2.2

Switching our attentions to north of the border now, as Partick Thistle host Morton at the Firhill Stadium, aiming to extend their lead at the summit of the Scottish First Division.

Alan Archibald's side currently sit top of the second tier, with a game in hand on opponents Greenock Morton, who occupy second place - and maximum points from this clash would give them a five point lead on their rivals.

The Maryhill side go into this one full of confidence having won their last six on the bounce in front of their own fans, and three clean sheets from four outings at home shows just how dominant they have been of late.

A 6-1 thrashing of high flying Livingston in their last encounter at the Firhill had their fans salivating - and the Jags will be keen to maintain that kind of entertainment in this clash.

Visitors Morton travel to this encounter having won just one of their last three on the road, and boss Allan Moore will know that anything other than a win here will effectively scupper their hopes of scooping the title.

The 'Ton have kept just two clean sheets in eight outings, and that indicates that they may struggle to contain the attacking threat of their hosts in this game, which promises to be an end to end tie.
