Huge payout after late Man City drama

Correct-score backers on Betfair who correctly called the results at Manchester City, Stoke and Swansea were handsomely rewarded...

Modern sports reporting and hyperbole go together like Everton or Wigan and springtime surges, but surely Sunday was one of the greatest days of football ever?

Even ignoring the Premier League drama, you had...

Juventus becoming invincible in Serie A, Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi scoring in their final games for clubs they will forever be associated with and Udinese somehow improving on last season's Champions League heroics.

The completion of Zaragoza's absurdly great escape in La Liga, with Villarreal remarkably taking their place under the unfortunate Miguel Angel Lotina, who after taking Deportivo down last term has surely trumped even Avram Grant. And then there was Real Madrid's low-key trophy ceremony!

In France, Montpellier have nine digits on the Ligue 1 title following their remarkable late victory over champions Lille, and all that within 24 hours of Borussia Dortmund again proved their German dominance with their most emphatic triumph over Bayern Munich yet...

But back to England, a remarkable day presented several opportunities to land large sums on Betfair, with the Etihad Stadium the obvious place to start.

A £10 flutter on Roberto Mancini's drought-halters beating QPR 3-2 produced a monster £408.50 profit - even accounting for 5% commission* - whereas the same bet with Unibet returned only £240.

There was also more money to be made betting against other people on Betfair as Bolton bowed out of the Premier League by failing to win at Stoke. Those who staked £10 on the 2-2 draw earned £142.50, compared to £100 with BetClic.

Elsewhere, a £10 wager on Liverpool's campaign closing in fittingly underwhelming fashion with a 1-0 loss at Swansea provided a £142.50 payout on Betfair, a significant increase on the £90 that Blue Square, Boylesports and BetClic customers were forced to settle for.

There's no Premier League action to bet on now for three months, however Betfair are already offering odds on the 2012/13 title race, with Manchester City the early 2.48 favourites.
