Lazio to take three points back to Rome

Serie A 2010/11

Jonno Turner looks to get off to a flying start this week, with two picks from the continent.

We're off to Spain for our first tip of the new week, as Rayo Vallecano welcome Real Zaragoza to the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas, looking to extend the impressive from  they have shown on their own patch.

Paco Jemez's side currently sit 12th in La Liga - but a win in this tie could see them jump into eighth place, so tight is this division.

And the Franjirrojos will be delighted with that placing, which is already an improvement on their position of 15th from last campaign.

Three unbeaten at the Vallecas, and just two losses in nine in front of their own fans, will give the home side much confidence ahead of this clash - and Jemez will be keen  to see his side build on their two clean sheets from two outings.

But seven goals from their last five suggests that the hosts are not just solid defensively - and that they also have an abundance of attacking quality in their squad.

Zaragoza go into this one in the midst of a miserable run which has seen them go four without a win.

Manolo Jimenez's side have lost three of their last four - and have not won on their travels in four outings away from La Romareda.

Six goals shipped in their last three away games points to defensive weaknesses, and suggests that Vallecano will at least be served up a couple of opportunities in this  game.

The visitors currently sit in 14th place in the table, and will be desperate to improve upon that placing - but I can't see them getting anything from this game.

Switching our attentions to Italy now, and in-form Lazio travel to Bologna aiming to continue their excellent recent results.

Vladimir Petkovic's side have won their last three outings, and are currently in the midst of a seven game unbeaten run which has seen them move into sixth place in Serie  A.

And nine unbeaten from their last dozen outings away from the Stadio Olimpico suggests that the Biancocelesti are more than capable of securing a result on their travels in  this one.

A 4-1 win at Maribor in their last game away from home will give much confidence to the Rome side, and Petkovic will be keen for his side to continue in the same vein as  they make the trip to Bologna.

Stefano Pioli's side have failed to win in seven of their last nine Serie A outings, and just three wins from their last seven on their own patch suggests that the hosts are not  as formidable at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara as they would like.

And with the home side teetering on the edge of the relegation zone, the Rossoblu's position could look even more precarious if they succumb to defeat in this tie.

But Lazio have so much momentum and vigour at the moment I can't really see any other outcome than an away win in this tie.
