Felix Magath has suggested Pep Guardiola could struggle to cope with the weight of expectation when he finally takes charge of Bayern Munich in the summer.

The much-decorated former Barcelona coach will end a year's sabbatical when he takes up a three-year contract to replace Jupp Heynckes at the Allianz Arena. Guardiola was expected to head for a new challenge in England but runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern, who are 1/40 to claim the title with bet365, won the race for his coveted signature. Magath, who led the Bavarian giants to successive German titles between 2004 and 2006, said the 42-year-old will have a huge act to follow if Heynckes can lead the team to Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Pokal glory this season. "Guardiola's being treated like a messiah before he's even arrived at Bayern. He might have difficulties living up to the high expectations," he told Liga Total. "We are all talking about all the titles that Guardiola has won in his career, but Jupp Heynckes could end up winning three trophies with Bayern this year. It will not be easy to surpass that." Magath, who was sacked by Wolfsburg in October last year, added: "Guardiola is an experienced coach, but German football should not adapt to him. He will have to get used to the Bundesliga. He has all the qualities to become a success, though."
