After a disappointing 2011/12 campaign plagued by a neck injury, twice former champion Selby arrives at his favourite tournament re-installed at the top of the world rankings and boasting the best recent form figures. December's UK Championship victory represented a career best achievement and Selby followed up by winning last week's Munich Open. His snooker at York may have been nothing special but not for the first time, massive reserves of patience, matchplay expertise and bottle won through. Indeed, the 'Jester from Leicester' personifies the top-class champion that knows how to win when not at his best, as London crowds know only too well. In five cracks at the Masters, Selby has won no fewer than seven final frame deciders and he once again proved his mettle at the death in the Munich final.
