Though responsible for some of the most memorable Masters moments, its a long time since Williams was a major factor in this event, reaching only one semi-final since winning his second Wembley title 10 years ago. It is testimony to Williams tenacity and consistency that he retains such a high ranking, but recent form is distinctly ordinary and its becoming ever harder to deny that this once great player is in terminal decline. Nevertheless, his first-round encounter with Matthew Stevens is extremely winnable for either man.
