Martinez to turn to youngsters

FA Cup

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is prepared to give youth a chance in the FA Cup third-round replay at Bournemouth.

The Latics have been on the wrong end of shock cup exits in the last few years to the likes of Notts County and Swindon Town and could suffer another embarrassment if they do not take the Cherries seriously at Dean Court. But Martinez will once again adopt his policy of throwing in some of his younger players in a bid to keep the squad fresh and concentrate on the job of staying in the Premier League. Wigan are 7/4 with bet365 to be relegated this season and are 8/5 to beat Eddie Howe's Bournemouth. Martinez said: "If we don't win, I will take that responsibility, but I will never be shy of giving youngsters opportunities. "I think it is important you share the demands and progressing in the cup is as important as winning football games. Sometimes it can be unfair to put a youngster out in the Premier League when they are not ready."
