Monte Carlo Rolex Masters Betting: Nadal to beat Djokovic and land ninth Monte Carlo crown
It's been a good week of tipping by tennis expert Sean Calvert, who is backing Rafa Nadal to win yet another clay court title this afternoon in Monte Carlo..
It's finals day at the Monte-Carlo Country Club and for the third time it's Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic who fight it out for the singles title of this Masters 1000 event.
It's a repeat of the 2012 final here, which Nadal won 6-3, 6-1 and he's a 1.5 shot to land a ninth Monte-Carlo crown when the championship match kicks off at 1pm UK time.
Today will be their first meeting since the French Open final last year and Nadal of course won that one, along with the other two played on the clay court swing last season.
Much has changed since then of course, but a year on little has altered in terms of the odds - in fact Rafa is a warmer favourite than 12 months ago, when he was around the 1.65 mark in the final.
Overall, Nadal has won 12 of their 14 clay court encounters, with Nole's two successes coming in the Rome and Madrid final in 2011.
Djokovic has improved markedly in his last two matches here this week after a slow, stuttering and possibly injury hampered opening to the tournament to the point where he crushed Fabio Fognini on Saturday.
That match is difficult to evaluate, as the Italian was far from his best and left the court to boos and jeers from the same supporters who had cheered him to the rafters all week.
Rafa let a 5-1 second set lead over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga slip in his semi final before regaining his composure and coming through on a tie break for a straight sets win. The result meant another winner for this column, with our wager on Tsonga +5.5 games coming good and today's bet has to be to side with Nadal.
The Spaniard will be determined to land yet another title here and keep his remarkable run going and despite his improvement Djokovic hasn't found the level on clay yet to be able to take down Nadal today.
The cold, wet conditions will help Djokovic and he certainly has a shot of taking a set today, but this is Rafa's arena and I expect it to stay that way come this afternoon.
