Christian Crowther looks at all the latest transfer happenings including Newcastle's pursuit of French striker Loic Remy...

According to the latest reports, Newcastle have agreed a deal with Marseille to sign versatile French forward Loic Remy, although the transfer is yet to be finalised.

It is believed that the Magpies have snatched Remy from under the noses of Harry Redknapp and QPR, who had offered Shaun Wright-Phillips as a seemingly unwelcome makeweight.

Sadly for Rangers fans, it's understood that the player had no desire to join the Loftus Road outfit though, instead opting to join Alan Pardew's side.

This would be music to the ears of Toon fans who must have grown disillusioned with events at St James' Park this season, not least losing their leading scorer Demba Ba to Chelsea last week.

Remy would be a ready-made replacement for Ba, and also more willing and comfortable slotting in the wide position occasionally required, and could cap off a memorable week for Newcastle if he follows fellow France international Mathieu Debuchy to the club.

Considering the Geordies' toils this season, snapping up two French internationals inside a week would be a real statement that Newcastle is a club which can still attract top players.

It would also significantly boost the chances of Pardew's side redirecting their faltering season, with their chances of a top-ten finish - currently rated at around 6.2 - perhaps stronger than recent results have caused their price to suggest.

Elsewhere, it is being reported that West Ham could be about to do further business in the transfer window if Blackburn accept a £2 million bid for Martin Olsson.

The Swedish left-sider, who still has two-and-a-half years left on his Ewood Park contract, is apparently desperate for Rovers to except the offer, since handing in a transfer request following Blackburn's relegation.

If Olsson were to leave, it could cap a miserable festive period for the Lancashire outfit, who have already sacked manager Henning Berg after seeing results slide dramatically under the Norwegian.

Blackburn currently lie 13th in the Championship, two straight wins since Berg's departure hinting that they could still be play-off contenders, five points off sixth place at present and rated at around 11.0 for promotion.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could free Real Madrid loanee Nuri Sahin to rejoin former club Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal may be poised to bring in Anderlecht's Argentine defensive midfielder Lucas Biglia for around £8 million.

Sunderland are also expected to make a surprise move for Swansea's Danny Graham after Reading and Norwich had both shown interest in the striker.
