Andy Murray is beaten by a qualifier in Paris as a week of betting shocks claims another victim

Andy Murray was backed at Betfair's lowest possible price during his shock defeat at the hands of Polish qualifier Jerzy Janowicz at the Paris Masters today.

Nearly £400,000 was traded on the US Open champion at the super skinny odds of 1.01 when his progress to the quarter-finals seemed to be assured.

But after taking the first set 7-5, and despite holding a match point at 5-4 in the second set, Murray couldn't get the job done.

And with the world no.3 seemingly distracted it was left to Janowicz to wrap up the third set.

Shrewd punters managed to back the world no.69 at a high of 590.0 on the exchange. Janowicz can be backed at around 30.0 to win the Paris Masters.

The defeat comes in a week of betting shocks - Arsenal denied Reading after going four goals down in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, and Novak Djokovic tumbled  out of the Paris Masters at the hands of Sam Querrey despite being backed at 1.01 having taken the first set 6-0.
