Posh price too big to maul Wolves

England - The Championship

Mike Norman looks ahead to the Boxing Day fixtures in the Championship and believes Peterborough are a huge price to make it three wins on the spin...

Bolton 1.85 v Sheff Wed 4.7; The Draw 3.9

Let's get straight to our 'goals prediction' game. I spoke on Saturday how games involving Bolton have tended to be high-scoring this season, in fact, I went for Over 3.5 Goals in the Trotters' game at Peterborough. Shame I didn't go for Over 8.5 Goals as the game eventually finished 5-4!

I haven't seen enough of Bolton to pass comment as to why they score plenty and ship plenty, but the fact is they do. A total of 73 goals have been seen in Championship games involving Bolton this term (that's over three per game on average), whilst this time last season in the Premier League their games averaged over 3.5 goals per game.

If this game were two or three weeks ago I would have envisaged Bolton scoring a few and beating Sheff Wed to nil, but the Owls have won their last two and will be full of confidence. They'll give it a go at the Reebok today and that should result in another high-scoring game.

Recommended Bet: Back Over 3.5 Goals @ 2.9

Hull 2.7 v Bristol City 2.86; The Draw 3.45

Way back in September I suggested that Hull were well worth an interest at 30.0 to win the Championship. I'd been impressed with the side Steve Bruce had assembled and the confident manner in which he spoke about his side. So I was delighted to see the Tigers go top of the table on Friday night with a 2-1 win at Derby. They are now available to back at just 6.6 to be top come next May.

Hull face Leicester today on the back of four straight victories, and at 2.7 to back that's a better price than I expected.

The Foxes have been a bit hit and miss of late, but away from home they are no great shakes. Their only win on their travels in the last two months was at a very out of form (at the time) Sheffield Wednesday. They have lost their last two away games without scoring and that was also the way their home game went on Saturday.

Recommended Bet: Back Hull to win @ 2.7

Wolves 1.8 v Peterborough 4.7; The Draw 4.2

Purely because of the odds on offer I have to make Peterborough my best bet of the day to beat relatively out-of-form Wolves.

Ok, Wolves have won three of their last four, but the bigger picture is that they've won just three of their last 13, and two of those victories were by single goal margins. The bigger picture isn't so great for Posh either, just two wins from their last 10 league games.

But what I like about Darren Ferguson's men is that, on their day, they are capable of mixing it with anyone in this division purely because they have the potential to score goals. And for a side that has won their last two games (v Cardiff and Bolton), and scored nine goals in their last three games (v Cardiff, Bolton and Middlesbrough) to be 4.7 to beat a mid-table side just seems too generous.

Perhaps a lay on Wolves at 1.82 would be the more sensible approach, but Peterborough don't do draws (just one in 23 games) so let's go all out for the victory.

Recommended Bet: Peterborough to win @ 4.7 (best bet)
