Premier League on Betfair: Sunderland's slide goes on as relegation rivals make their move

England - Premier League

The Black Cats suffer defeat at the hands of Manchester United and then watch Wigan hit a late winner against Norwich to hit a new low in Betfair's relegation  market...

North London got one over on the west of the capital as Tottenham and Arsenal both scored vital wins while Chelsea went down at Southampton to give the top-four finish  market a gentle shake.

But the real story is happening at the other end of the table where Sunderland continue to creep towards relegation. The Black Cats lost to Manchester United in the  early kick-off before suffering the agony of watching Wigan score a late winner to make relegation a real possibility at the Stadium of Light.

Matched at 60.0 in Betfair's relegation market, Sunderland are now just 2.8 to start next year in the Championship. Incredibly they are now a shorter price than Wigan who, boosted by another late season surge in form, can be backed at 3.0.

Reading, beaten 4-1 by Arsenal, look a shoo-in for relegation and can be backed accordingly. The Royals are 1.06 to go down, with QPR - who play Fulham on Monday night - 1.21 to join them in the Championship.

Newcastle, beaten 4-0 at Manchester City, are just three points off the bottom three but trade at 15.0 in the market.

London rivals Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are battling hard to finish the season in the Champions League places. The quartet all trade at odds-on in a market where the  Manchester clubs have two places almost certainly sewn up.

Rafa Benitez's Blues are the market's pick at 1.38, with Spurs, who are currently third, and fifth-placed Arsenal trading at 1.8.
