PSG approach Tottenham over AVB

Paris St-Germain look set to test Tottenham's resolve by enquiring as to the availability of manager Andre Villas-Boas...

French champions Paris St-Germain are widening the net as they look to replace outgoing coach Carlo Ancelotti, with Spurs' boss AVB the latest to be sounded out.

With current incumbent Ancelotti keen to force through a move to Real Madrid, reports suggest that PSG have approached the former Chelsea manager to test the water on a potential move.

Despite the Ligue 1 club's reluctance to sanction Ancelotti's move to the Bernabeu, insiders say that the club are resigned to losing their want-away manager, who is rated the overwhelming 1.04 favourite to take charge of the Spanish giants.

AVB himself is contracted to Spurs until 2015, meaning the Parisian club would have to shell out a huge compensation fee for the young manager, though given PSG are bankrolled by the Qatar Investment Authority, this obstacle could easily be overcome.

It would however be a dramatic switch indeed for the Portuguese tactician, who only took up the Tottenham reins last summer after an ill-fated spell at Stamford Bridge previously.

AVB's rollercoaster managerial career has yet to see him start a second season at any of his four clubs since starting out at Academica in 2009/10.

As recently as April, AVB hinted this was something he was keen to rectify. He said: "At the moment, I am very, very focused on trying to get another year at one club. The same club."

Regardless of his sacking by Chelsea, he remained highly rated and, after being handed a long-term contract by Spurs, it doesn't seem likely that he will be tempted away, despite the lure of Champions League football and potential financial gain.

Even though AVB's first season at White Hart Lane saw Spurs agonisingly pipped by Arsenal to fourth spot, he has widely been regarded as a success in his second coming in English football.

It would be a little damaging to his reputation to up sticks right now just as he was starting to build something with Tottenham, who are rated at 3.15 to infiltrate the top four in 2013/14.

He has been privileged to work with one of the world's best players in Gareth Bale and has stated his desire to continue that relationship, which could be easier said than done with Real Madrid hovering.

Bale is available at 2.46 not to end the transfer window at Tottenham.
