Short expects Di Canio impact

England - Premier League

Sunderland chairman Ellis Short is confident that new manager Paolo Di Canio is the man to save the club from the drop, with the Black Cats 7/4 with bet365 to be relegated.

Di Canio has been drafted in following the sacking of Martin O'Neill on Saturday evening, with the Wearsiders one point above the bottom three and without a win in  their last eight Premier League games. And Short expects the charismatic Italian to make an instant impression at the Stadium of Light, telling his club's official  website: "Paolo is hugely enthused by the challenge that lies ahead of him. He is passionate, driven and raring to get started. "The sole focus of everyone for the  next seven games will be to ensure we gain enough points to maintain our top-flight status. "I think that the chances of that are greatly increased with Paolo joining  us." Di Canio faces a tough baptism in the Sunderland hotseat when the Black Cats head to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Sunday 7th April.
