Betfair's very own weatherman Mike Norman attempts to keep us up to date with what is, and what isn't, going ahead at the weekend in the world of sport...

The current spell of poor weather, which includes freezing temperatures and widespread snowfall throughout the UK, is threatening to cause havoc with this weekend's sporting fixtures.

Not surprisingly, football and horse racing are set to be the worst affected sports with postponements and many pitch/course inspections already in place.

The first football postponements are starting to filter through with League One games at Bury, Crawley, Crewe, Hartlepool and Scunthorpe, and the League Two fixtures at Accrington, Rochdale and Southend already falling victim to a frozen pitch.

In the world of horse racing Saturday's meetings at Taunton and Haydock - which was due to feature the Peter Marsh Chase and a Champion Hurdle trial - have already been abandoned, while the meeting at Ascot - with star chaser Sprinter Sacre in action - must now pass a 16:30 inspection on Friday. (EDIT: Ascot has now been abandoned due to heavy snow)

Friday's twilight meeting at Wolverhampton has also been abandoned with heavy snow falling over the midlands track.

Rugby Union and even greyhound racing are amongst the other sports that are in jeopardy and the simple advice to anyone planning a trip to a sporting event this weekend is check first before you leave your home.

A full list of football fixtures that have been hit by the big freeze can be found below and will be updated regularly.

But fear not sports fans, there are plenty of other sports to enjoy this weekend, all of which can be found on the Betfair Exchange for you to wager on should you choose.

At Alexander Palace the Betfair Masters snooker continues with the semi-finals staged Saturday and the best-of-19 frames final taking place on Sunday. Neil Robertson is the marginal 3.5 favourite to defend the title he won last year.

In Melbourne, with on-court temperatures in excess of 100°C, the Australian Open is apporaching the end of week one - Andy Murray is 4.5 second favourite behind Novak Djokovic (1.92) to win the Men's Singles, while Laura Robson (120.0) is still in there fighting in the Women's Singles.

Throw in some Premier League football, Heineken Cup rugby, the NFL play-offs, and golf from both the European and PGA Tours then there is absolutely no reason why your sporting weekend should be ruined.
