World Cup on Betfair: England thrash San Marino and Wales stun Scotland

 

England put eight past San Marino, Wales come from behind to beat Scotland at Hampden Park, and Rep of Ireland hold Sweden to a goalless draw in Stockholm. Mike Norman brings us the In-Play odds...

 

England produced a thoroughly professional performance as they thrashed San Marino 0-8 in the Stadio Olimpico this evening, a result that keeps them two points adrift of Tuesday's opponents and Group H leaders Montenegro.

 

In a game that Roy Hodgson's men were fully expected to win they took just over 10 minutes to open the scoring, though it came courtesy of an own goal from San Marino defender Alessandro Della Valle who turned a low Leighton Baines cross into his own net.

 

But it wasn't long before goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - matched at 16.5 in the First Goalscorer market (own goals don't count) - and Jermain Defoe put the Three Lions firmly in control.

 

And on 39 minutes came arguably the goal of the game as Ashley Young fired home a stunning drive from all of 25 yards. Frank Lampard made it 0-5 just before the interval.

 

It was a full eight minutes into the second half before Young had a rival for 'goal of the game'; Wayne Rooney curling home a free-kick from just outside the box. And on 70 minutes Daniel Sturridge - England's sixth different scorer on the night - headed home to put Hodgson's men 0-7 in front.

 

There was time for one more goal, Defoe getting his second to make it 0-8 with just over 10 minutes to go meaning England had scored eight for the first time since 1987. Over 7.5 Goals was matched at 17.5 In-Play.

 

Despite the confidence-boosting win England can ill-afford to slip up in Montenegro on Tuesday night after the league leaders grabbed a late winner away to Moldova. England are avilable to back at 1.76 to win the game with the hosts at 4.3 and The Draw at 3.85.

 

Elsewhere tonight there were some huge odds matched as Wales came from behind once again to beat Scotland 1-2 at Hampden Park.

 

Grant Hanley - matched at 80.0 to score first - put Scotland 1-0 up on the stroke of half time (the 0-0 HT Score was matched at a low of 1.07) but second half goals from Aaron Ramsey and Hal Robson-Kanu, after Richard Snodgrass had been dismissed, give Chris Coleman's men the victory.

 

Wales were matched at a high of 44.0 to win the game while a Sending Off was backed at 7.2.

 

The Republic of Ireland's hopes of making it to Brazil 2014 are still intact after they drew 0-0 with Sweden in Stockholm. The goalless draw was matched at 13.5.
